If I were a fish I'd be Sweetlips :-)

Actually I've never been known to be able to sweet talk anyone into anything. Really. Really really. Soft-sell cannot. Hard-sell also cannot make it. In fact, I can't even convince anyone to do anything much, so the only "sweet" words that come out of my mouth are usually, "Ah neh, kopi kurang MANIS ya..."

But Wai & Jeffrey seem to think otherwise, and have requested for me to INSPIRE guides and volunteers, by trying to haul their asses out of bed at 4 in the morning for the coming
Reefwalk with one of my inspirational blurbs. So this here is extracted from "The Beacon," newsletter of Birthrite, South Africa, which was sent to all Reefwalk guides yesterday.

"A VOLUNTEER is a person who is a light to others, giving witness in a mixed-up age, doing well and willingly the tasks at hand - namely, being aware of another's needs and doing something about it.

A VOLUNTEER is a person who remembers to do the things to make other people happy, who takes the loneliness out of the alone by talking to them, who is concerned when others are unconcerned, who has the courage to be a prophet and to say the things that have to be said for the good of all.

A VOLUNTEER is a person whose charity is fidelity, who is faithful in an unfaithful world, grateful in an ungrateful world, giving when all about are grasping, listening when others need to tell about their fears and problems."

As inspiring as these words may be to a handful of us, it's also a matter of "easy to say, not easy to do", 'cos most volunteers have full time jobs or studies to cope with, plus families and loved ones to pay attention to, plus other volunteer commitments*. And "sweet" words usually fall on deaf ears 'cos most people are better inspired by action rather than words. If that's really the case, then I still say
SIGN UP for guiding on the 24th, see us in action and be inspired!

* Singapore is so lacking in individuals who come forward to volunteer that you usually find the same people in several volunteer groups. Birds of a feather......

May be we shouldn't have that Corn-can-kill-a-bird section.. The guides should get all the stories by coming to the walks or trainings, and copy from other guides!

Anyway, I removed the hyperlink that email Wai.. the blog has gone public so I don't want her mailbox to get cramped by unnecessary mails from unkown people. The guides should know who to contact already.

So.. Why is Reefwalking better than sex?
